3 awesome events lined up for SYF: The Next Chapter!

The schedule for our ‘Next Chapter’ quarterly activities is finally out! As part of the inaugural SYF Next Chapter, we’ve lined up a series of fun excursions for you. For every 2nd Sunday of the next three months (Sep-Nov), you will be able to get up close and personal with farmers (both young and old) and learn the skills of the trade.
The line up is as follows:
Chapter 1.1: Back to the earth
13 September 2015
Start the morning right by working the pottery wheel at the last remaining dragon kilns in Singapore – Thow Kwang Pottery Jungle. Built in 1940, enter the dragon kiln to discover the colourful history preserved within. Apart from learning about the art of pottery making, you also get to create your own plate from shaping to glazing.

Chapter 1.2: Turning waste into gold
11th October 2015
Did you know that each veggie you eat takes about 30 days to grow? During this period, crops are constantly under attack by insects and weeds. Organic farmers use creative and environmentally sustainable methods, like crop rotation and brightly coloured fly tape, to preserve the integrity of these crops. Learn the science behind composting and try your hand at harvesting your own food at Quan Fa Organic Farm.

Chapter 1.3: Fishy offshore business
7 November 2015
Finally, we’ll take a boat off the Singapore coast for VIP access to the Metropolitan Offshore Fish Farm. Watch the crew haul up the day’s catch, learn to identify saltwater fishes, and find out about their plans to cope with plankton bloom. End the chapter with a campfire to cook our freshly-caught fish while winding down on a Sunday.
