We hope to foster a farming community among the youth in Singapore.
Youth today are often disconnected from the role that agriculture plays in their lives because of supermarket convenience and mass consumption. We want to inspire the next generation of change-makers to connect back to the rustic countryside, with these goals:
#1 Increase awareness of local farms, and understanding their importance
#2 Position local agriculture as a young, fun and innovative industry
#3 Connect youth to the countryside, and engage them in meaningful activities
#4 Provide leadership and opportunities for youth to practice and excel in the area of agriculture.
The team
The Singapore Young Farmers was established in May 2015 as the youth wing of Kranji Countryside Association. It is helmed by four children of our local Pioneer Generation Farmers—including Chelsea from Jurong Frog Farm, JJ and Fabian from Quan Fa Organic Farm, and Stella from Thow Kwang Pottery Jungle. We have since included our awesome volunteers Darren, Wei Liang, Huda, Louise, and Bryan!
Kranji Countryside Association
The Kranji Countryside Association began in 2005 with the aim to promote local agriculture, food security and sustainability, agro-tourism, and community bonding. They work closely with public and private partners to maintain 1% of Singapore's land area for growing food in a sustainable manner. Find out more:
